Sermon: “Bread and the World”
The Fifth Sunday in Kingdomtide, October 1, 2017
World Communion Sunday
Scripture: Philippians 2:1-13
“The center of our being is a point of nothingness which is untouched by sin and by illusion, a point of pure truth, a point or spark which belongs entirely to God, which is never at our disposal, from which God disposes our lives, which is inaccessible to the fantasies of our own mind or the brutalities of our own will…” Thomas Merton.
We explore how we can experience God in silence and a letting go of our mental understandings of God and in that “nothingness” to find a new experience of God working out God’s divine life and love in and through us.

*The names of the Sundays are taken from Pastor’s book, The Bible Through the Seasons: A Three-Year Journey with the Bible. There are thirteen Sundays in the season of Kingdomtide — autumn in the northern hemisphere, spring in the southern. Advent begins on December 2.
