Sermon: “Who’d a Thunk It?”
The Thirteenth Sunday in Pentecost*, August 27, 2017
Scripture Link: Matthew 16:13-20
Rather than remaining at home and taking on the family business, as expected of a Jewish male, he becomes a wandering teacher who leads a ragtag group of disciples…that this man, Jesus, would be the Messiah?…Who’d a thunk it?! But even more: that we would be living with the very life of Christ and be involved deeply in sharing his love: Who’d a thunk it?!
*The names of the Sundays are taken from Pastor’s book, The Bible Through the Seasons: A Three-Year Journey with the Bible. There are thirteen Sundays in the season of Pentecost — summer in the north, winter in the south. Next Sunday begins the season of Kingdomtide, a thirteen-week season of autumn in the north until Advent begins on December 2.
